When everything in the mind and body is functioning according to God’s order, it can be referred to as health.

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

The Greek word for thief means someone who steals something of little value, like a pickpocket or a pilferer. It describes someone who wants to steal from you with no intent to harm you physically. However, a robber doesn’t care if he harms you or not. The devil is both a thief and a robber; in many instances he will pickpocket health from you without you knowing he did it. His deceptive nature can lure you into a false sense of ambivalence about trivial symptoms. However his end game is always to steal, kill and destroy.

Your approach toward sickness, no matter how trivial, is never to treat any symptom casually.

The ultimate objective of sickness is death, according to scripture, and this is why we have to exercise our God-given authority to resist it. The devil’s priority is to destroy you, while God’s priority is to give you abundant life. Your priority is to know the difference, and exercise your delegated authority against all forms of physical and mental attack. Symptoms should be resisted with the same intensity you would use against a robber, who illegally breaks into your house and intends to take your possessions and your life.

There’s no sense in applying God’s principles of divine health if some of the following areas that cause sickness are ignored, such as - wrong thinking. The health of the body is directly linked to the way one thinks. The medical world confirms this by defining a psychosomatic disorder as a disease that involves both mind and body. Psychosomatic disorders are conditions in which a person suffers from significant physical symptoms, causing real distress and disability that cannot be explained by medical tests or physical examination. Your mind is the control room that determines your health to a great extent. Many doctors believe that up to seventy per cent of sicknesses has its source in our minds, relating to the way we think. The Bible confirms that we are a product of our thought life, and says,

“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he" Proverbs 23:7.

Scientists are now making discoveries that line up with the truth of God’s Word. One article1 stated:

“Certain brain areas are active when we think about the future, and specific areas of the brain are active when thinking about upcoming events. Much of our everyday thought depends on our ability to see ourselves partaking in future events. The brain is programmed to think about and plan our future. The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences study could help doctors trying to understand damage inflicted by strokes, injuries or diseases. The findings tally with damage spotted in the brains of patients who have lost the ability to ‘think ahead’. Scientists agree: - the ability to create a mental picture of events that have not yet happened is a unique quality only to humans. The researchers placed twenty-one volunteers into the MRI machine, then contrasted the scan results when they were asked to imagine vividly future events and recollect past memories. The resulting images showed clear differences between a birthday already experienced, and a birthday yet to come. In particular, when looking ahead, three particular areas of the brain were activated. These brain areas are already known to be involved in the imagining of body movements, suggesting that when the human brain is thinking about the future, it does so in terms of distinct movements and actions that will happen at that point.”

The article suggested that when you think about your healing, your brain sends signals to the affected area of the body, preparing it for the action necessary to bring about what you are thinking. It went on to say:

“Perhaps one of the most adaptive capacities of the human mind is the ability to fashion behaviour in anticipation of future consequences, and that much of our everyday thought depends on our ability to see ourselves partaking in future events.”

This is an important discovery by science confirming God’s principle of faith2. Faith believes the outcome of something it cannot see with the natural eye but knows it exists because God has promised it in His Word. Being convinced of something existing that has not materialised is a biblical principle that comes by meditation in God’s Word, a process of muttering scripture to your self over in your mind or audibly. As you hear yourself repeating God’s promises of healing, faith builds up inside you to the extent that you know without wavering that you are healed. Your body responds to your faith, and hope starts to dominate the fear of remaining sick, and the healing process takes place.

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17

It may take some time for your body to align itself with your mind, before you feel the benefits of restored health. It will undoubtedly be a fight of faith, and you will have to dismiss all doubt when nothing appears to be changing, or when symptoms still persist. If you have taken the road to recovery using God's medicine, don't lose hope and don't give up, the destination you will reach is called 'health'. Even if you are taking prescription medicine, still trust God for His supernatural touch to remove symptoms and heal you quickly.

God cannot lie who said, "by Jesus stripes you are healed" 1 Peter 2:24.

Give God the best opportunity you can for healing to become a reality in your life, by eliminating wrong thinking and replacing it with right thinking based on what God has promised regarding your health.

  • Father, I thank you that I have authority over the sickness, disease, oppression, and over all the power of the enemy. I will not confess any kind of sickness over my life or allow any thoughts to take root in me, regarding sickness in Jesus name.

Worship is such a towering theme in the Bible, and there is strong evidence throughout scripture that worship is a powerful environment to receive healing, and maintain good health. God created you to worship, and it’s the one thing that He requires from you above all else.

It's not an overstatement to say that the Christian life is meaningless without worship, and your success and health is largely dependent on the lifestyle practice of it. By understanding the connection between worship and healing, your relationship with God will deepen, and you will enjoy a renewed sense of trust in Him as your Healer.
